Thyme is an all-time favorite tender perennial herb to grow in your herb garden. We provide 3 different varieties, all for great reasons. All three are very easy to grow, require very little of your attention, and are great additions to your culinary dishes.

The summer thyme aka French thyme will produce spicy, aromatic, soft grey to green leaves that are tiny and narrow with lavender color flowers. Probably the most flavorful of the thyme we offer and their delicate flowers will be sure to attract all the happy insects into your herb garden.

Days to Maturity: 90-95 days

Plant size: 6-12”tall

Plant spacing: 8-12” apart

Sun, soil, and water requirement: Enjoys full sun to partial shade, especially during the hotter months. It prefers soil that is light, dry, and well-draining. Water regularly but try not to overwater by letting the soil dry a little between watering. Thyme is naturally drought resistant, so if you forget to water, no biggie! Rain is usually enough if its not living in a pot.

Pruning: Pinch leaves to encourage branching and bush growth habits.

Harvesting: Try to hold off on harvesting until your new plants become well established. Then just harvest leaves or branches as needed. Branches can be dried in the shade or indirect light and stored for later use.

Culinary: We prefer to use this herb fresh, but you can use it dry as well. Great for seasoning clam chowders, soups, stews, sauces, and meat dishes. Best to add earlier on in the cooking process to help mellow out the potent flavor.

Nutrients: Thyme has a bunch of minerals and vitamins that are beneficial for your health, even though it is used in small doses. Its leaves are rich in potassium, iron, calcium, and important vitamins A, K, E, C, and much more.

Special considerations: Thyme will become woody and needs to be divided or replaced after 3-4 years.

Companion planting: Thyme is well-liked by all the neighborly crops and helps deter cabbage moths.
