Chinese cabbages are fast-growing annuals.

This baby napa cabbage is a forceful grower, disease resistant, and delicious! They produce heads that are 8-10 inches tall, with a crisp and cool texture, making them perfect for sautéing or adding to stir-fries. The flesh is sweet and flavorful and easy to grow. You can cover plants when they are young, then remove row covers once heads start to form. For anyone who likes to make Asian-style dishes, this cabbage is a must-have.

Plant spacing: 8-12” apart

Sun, soil, and water requirement: Plant your baby cabbage under full sun in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Keep plants evenly watered and maintain weeding to encourage firm and sweet heads.

Harvesting: Harvest the 8-10 inch tall, 4-6-inch-wide heads when they are strong and well-formed. Cut at the base of the plant with sharp shears.

Culinary: Its mild flavor makes it a great addition to most meals that use leafy greens however, it can be easily overcooked. It's most popularly used in stir-fries, soups, noodles, meat dishes, and salads.

Nutrients: Cabbage is highly nutritious, packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and is low in calories and carbohydrates.

Companion planting: Cabbage can attract several pests, so plant it near herbs and/or vegetables that detract them. Celery or thyme can help repel cabbage worms while plants in the onion family help deter maggots. Rosemary, sage, thyme, coriander, and nasturtiums help keep flea beetles and aphids away. Keep away from, strawberries, rue, tomatoes, garlic, pole beans, and mustards.
